Sports Day

Sports Day is a much-loved tradition at Carina State School—where energy, team spirit and fun take centre stage! All students from Prep to Year 6 participate in our annual Athletics Carnival and Cross-Country events, representing their house team: Mercury, Saturn, or Jupiter.

For our Prep to Year 2 students, Sports Day is all about having a go, building confidence, and enjoying being active with their classmates. With a focus on participation, teamwork, and fun, these early years events are designed to develop fundamental movement skills and a love of physical activity.

For our Year 3 to 6 students, the competition steps up a notch, with opportunities to showcase their athletic skills across a range of events. Students who excel may be selected to represent Carina State School at district carnivals, giving them a chance to compete at a higher level and continue to develop their sporting talents.
No matter the year level, Sports Day is a celebration of effort, perseverance, and school spirit—and a highlight on the school calendar for students, staff, and families alike.

Basketball Excellence

The Carina State School Basketball Excellence Program is offered to enthusiastic students who show promise in basketball during PE lessons. There are separate programs available for year 5/6 and year 3/4 students.

Training sessions are held at lunch time with Mr Heron (HPE teacher) between one and three times per week.
Basketball Excellence Program student requirements are:
  • Behaviour must be at a consistently high standard in all areas of school life.
  • Academic effort must be solid. The aim is to achieve a minimum ‘B’ standard across all subject areas.
  • Commitment: 100% attendance all training sessions offered for each particular team/group.
Mr Perry, our Principal loves to be at training whenever he can. He is also a basketball player and coach.

Swimming Program

All students from Prep-Year 6 are offered the opportunity to attend swimming lessons. Students participate in 10 swimming lessons over one term. Swimming lessons are provided by qualified instructors at the Clem Jones Swimming School just down the road. Students also participate in either a Junior (Prep – Year 2) or Senior (Year 3 – Year 6) Swimming Carnival during Term 4.
