Carina State School has the services of an Advisory visiting teacher (AVT) to support our staff in enabling students with disability to access and participate in the curriculum. Our AVT works with students who have a verified disability – intellectual, physical, ASD or hearing impairment.

At Carina State School our AVT provides a range of services. For example:

  • assists in the implementation of teach and learning programs and review of educational goals
  • provides information on and models strategies for teach and learning for students with disability, e.g. team teach with class teacher
  • provides specific information on the student's disability and assists the school in understanding the educational implications of the disability
  • arranges the supply of and training in the use of specialised equipment
  • monitor the use of recommended equipment including technology resources
  • assists our staff and families to access support networks.

Our AVT works in the school on a weekly basis, with the number of days determined by the needs of the students.
